Judge Kyle Hawthorne
Judge Kyle Hawthorne has served the 85th District Court in Brazos County since January 2015. He earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 1986 from the South Texas College of Law, and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Texas A&M University in 1979. Prior to his legal career and serving as a Partner at Bruchez. Goss, Thornton, Meronoff & Hawthorne, P.C., he worked as an accountant.

Judge Hawthorne has been licensed by the Bar in the State of Texas since 1986 and is also licensed to practice in Western and Southern Districts of Texas, in the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals (New Orleans), and in the United States Supreme Court.
After faithfully serving for so many years, Judge Hawthorne will retire from the bench at the end of 2026.
The jurisdiction of a District Court is determined by the Texas Constitution and statute. Generally speaking, the jurisdiction of a District Court includes felony criminal cases, civil cases with higher amounts of controversy, and family law matters.
The 85th District Court handles civil, criminal (felony and related misdemeanors), family law, and juvenile cases.
It is the goal of the 85th District Court to provide a just, fair, equitable, and impartial adjudication of all matters brought before this court, and to treat all individuals with integrity, honesty, equality, and respect.
You must complete the Request for Transcript form and return it to the Court.
You must complete the Setting Request form and return it to the District Clerk’s Office.
