Judge G. Jerrell Wise
Judge G. Jerrell Wise serves as the Judge of the 472nd District Court in Brazos County, Texas, following his appointment by Governor Greg Abbott in 2023. Prior to joining the district court, Judge Wise was the Presiding Judge of the City of Bryan Municipal Court and practiced as a civil trial attorney, representing clients in complex litigation before state and federal courts across Texas.

Judge Wise earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center and his Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas A&M University. During law school and in the period immediately after graduation, he gained prosecutorial experience with the Harris County and Collin County District Attorney’s Offices, trying criminal cases under the supervision of senior prosecutors. Before attending law school, he served as a police officer with the City of Mesquite.
Judge Wise is dedicated to the fair and impartial administration of justice and to faithfully upholding the Constitution and the laws of the State of Texas. He and his wife, Emily, have been married since 2002 and have raised their five children in Brazos County, where they remain active members of the community.
The jurisdiction of a District Court is determined by the Texas Constitution and statute. Generally speaking, the jurisdiction of a District Court includes felony criminal cases, civil cases with higher amounts of controversy, and family law matters.
The 472nd District Court handles civil, family law, and juvenile cases.
It is the goal of the 472nd District Court to provide a just, fair, equitable, and impartial adjudication of all matters brought before this court, and to treat all individuals with integrity, honesty, equality, and respect.
Fees, Filings, and Copies: Contact the District Clerk’s Office: For questions about fees and filings on divorce, custody, and other civil cases not specifically listed, or for copies of court filings, please call the Brazos County District Clerk’s Office at (979) 361-4231.
- Status Hearings are conducted on all civil matters filed in this court. The Notice of Setting is issued upon the filing of the case along with the Disposition Deadline. The Status Hearings remain set until all parties have been served, answers have been filed, and a final trial has been set. Alternatively, the Status Hearings will be removed upon the filing of dispositive documents.
- To Set a Jury Trial: Please EFILE an Agreed DCO (bearing the signatures of all attorneys/pro se parties), EFILE a Setting Request Form, or EFILE a Proposed DCO along with a Setting Request Form.
- To Set a Bench Trial: Please EFILE a Setting Request Form. Upon the e-filing of the signed Agreed DCO in proper form/substance or Setting Request, the Status Hearing settings will be removed and/or the attorneys/pro se parties excused from personal appearance; all other settings will remain in place.
- Status Hearings are not held on the record in this court. If a record is needed, please let the court know as soon as possible.
- All attorneys/pro se parties have the option to appear by Zoom or in person for Status Hearing settings. Please refer to your Notice of Setting for the Zoom link. If you did not retain a copy of the Notice of Setting, please contact the District Clerk’s Office to request a copy.
This court will not set a jury trial more than 12 months out without first conducting a hearing. When requesting a jury trial setting, please be sure to comply with the time standards for the disposition of cases. If you are requesting a jury trial date that exceeds the time standards for the disposition of cases, the trial will not be set without first conducting a hearing.

You must complete the Setting Request form and return it to the District Clerk’s Office.
The taking of photographs, video, or use of any other type of recording device is prohibited while in the 472nd District Court, unless permission is granted by the Judge.
No child under the age of 18 years will be allowed in the courtroom without court permission. This is not an appropriate setting for a child due to the types of cases that are handled by this court.
To request a transcript of the reporter’s record in the 472nd District Court, please contact Court Reporter Corina Lozano. Please include the date of the hearing, the cause number, and the style of the case.
You will need to request a hearing or make appearance at a scheduled hearing. To request a hearing, you’ll need to complete a Setting Request form and return it to the District Clerk’s Office.

History of the 472nd District Court
The 472nd District Court was created in 2023 to have “primary responsibility for cases involving civil matters, family law matters, and juvenile matters.” (88(R) HB 2418) The bill was authored by Representative John Raney (TX-14) and co-authored by Representative Kyle Kacal (TX-12).
On September 1, 2023, Gov. Greg Abbott appointed George Jerrell Wise as its first judge.
