Judge Roy Brantley
Judge Roy Brantley was elected to County Court at Law in 2022.
Born in Waco, Texas, Judge Brantley grew up on his grandparents’ farm in Salado, Texas. He graduated from Belton High School in 1977 and was very active in FFA and 4H, serving as a State FFA Officer and winning the State 4H Livestock Judging team in Houston, Texas. Roy was the first in his family to attend Texas A&M, thanks to a Houston Livestock and Rodeo Scholarship.

As an undergraduate at Texas A&M, he was a member of the Corps of Cadets in Company B-1 and served on Corps Staff as a Junior and Senior and served as the Commanding Officer of the Ross Volunteer Company as they marched in President Reagan’s Inaugural Parade. He graduated with a degree in Agriculture and is a certified teacher.
In 1985, he graduated from South Texas College of Law (STCL) and was chosen Co-Outstanding Student of the Year. He was the Founder of the Student Aggie Bar Association at STCL Houston and was a Board of Advocate. After law school, he was a briefing attorney for the Texas Supreme Court.
He was a founding Board Member of the Brazos Valley Young Lawyers Association, a past President of the Brazos County Bar Association, and was on the Boards of the State Bar of Texas Young Lawyers Association and on the State Bar of Texas Board of Advocates. He has served as chair of the District 8 Grievance Committee, a member of the Pro Bono Committee, a member of the Texas Professionalism Committee, and a Commissioner of the Texas Access to Justice Commission.
He has served as a Deacon as well as an Elder at Church and the incorporating Board Member of Save Our Streets Ministry and a Board Member of Chance to Dance BCS.
He was recognized by the State Bar of Texas for his service to the Bar and Brazos County Texas by a State Bar Resolution in 2023. He is on the Rudder Association Board and is a Century Club Member and on the Ross Volunteer Association. He is on the Wellborn Texas Board and a member of the Tiger Club and serves on the Texas Bar Foundation as a Nominating Chair.
He is a Board-Certified Personal Injury Trial Lawyer and is an AV Preeminent Rated Attorney since 2016 and listed as an AVVO Top Lawyer in Texas Ethics and Professional Excellence since 2015.
He and Cindy have four children and three grandchildren.
County Court at Law No. 2 handles criminal misdemeanor cases and civil cases, including:
- Child Custody
- Condemnation
- Divorce
- Personal Injury
- Probate matters including wills and guardianship
The Court also hears appeals from Justice of the Peace courts. We have jury trials scheduled every week, as well as, an Associate Misdemeanor Court docket on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and Wednesday afternoons, each week.

All criminal cases that are set for Jury Trial will also have a final pre-trial setting. All matters that the State or defendant request a pre-trial ruling on must be filed at least seven days prior to the final pre-trial hearing.
The Standing Order in Divorce and Family Cases applies in every divorce suit and in every suit affecting the parent-child relationship filed in Brazos County. A copy of this order must be attached to the petition when it is filed. Copies will be available for your use in the District Clerk’s Office.
