Judge Misty Swan
Judge Swan was appointed by the Brazos County District Judges as the Felony Associate Judge and Juvenile Referee in 2017.
Originally from Breckenridge, Texas, Judge Swan proudly graduated from Texas A&M University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. From 2003-2006, she attended the University of Tulsa Law School where she worked at the Public Defender’s Office. In 2006, Swan clerked for the Chief United States District Judge of the Southern District of Texas, the Honorable Judge Randy Crane.

After leaving McAllen, Texas Swan and her husband relocated to Crockett, Texas where she served as the Assistant District Attorney. In 2007, Swan took a position as an Assistant District Attorney in Brazos County where she remained until 2017.
In her free time, Swan enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.
The goal of the Felony Associate Court / Juvenile Court Referee is to provide a just, fair, equitable, efficient, timely, and impartial adjudication of the rights of litigants within the bounds of substantive law and procedural law as promulgated in Texas.
The Felony Associate Court / Juvenile Court Referee:
- Appoints legal representation to indigent defendants (court-appointed attorney)
- Issuance of Summons
- Presides over felony and misdemeanor criminal cases
- Presides over felony and misdemeanor juvenile cases
- Hears bond modifications and revocations
- Hears writs of habeas corpus
- Handles detention hearings, adjudications, and dispositions.
- Rules on admissibility of evidence
