The judge controls the Zoom courtroom and may set additional rules or expectations. Failure to comply with the rules may result in your removal from hearing.
Before the Hearing
- Test Your Technology:
- Ensure your device, internet connection, microphone, and camera work properly.
- Download and update the Zoom app in advance if required.
- Use Your Real Name:
- Your Zoom display name should reflect your real name to help the court identify you.
- Remain in front of the camera throughout the hearing. Do not move off screen unless the judge gives permission. (Exception: court personnel logged in for technical purposes).
During the Hearing
- Dress Appropriately:
- Wear court-appropriate clothing—usually business or professional attire.
- Avoid hats and sunglasses.
- Find a Quiet Location:
- Participate from a quiet, private space to avoid distractions or interruptions.
- Use earbuds or headphones, if possible, to hear better.
- Mute Your Microphone When Not Speaking:
- Avoid background noise by staying muted until it’s your turn to speak.
- Do Not Record the Hearing:
- Recording, photographing or broadcasting the hearing is strictly prohibited without prior written approval from the court.
- Violations may result in contempt of court charges.
- Be Respectful:
- Address the judge as “Your Honor.”
- Do not interrupt others.
- Stay attentive.
- No Eating, Drinking, or Smoking:
- Treat the hearing as if you were in a physical courtroom.
Legal Conduct
- Have Necessary Materials Ready.
- Be prepared with all documents or exhibits you may need.
- If filing or sharing documents, follow court instructions for submission in advance.
Technical Disruptions
- If you get disconnected, rejoin as soon as possible.
- Notify the court in advance if you have connectivity issues.
