Judge Amanda Matzke
Judge Amanda Matzke graduated from Texas A&M University in 1993 and Baylor School of Law in 1996. She began working for Brazos County as a prosecutor in the County Attorney’s Office upon passing the bar. Judge Matzke was elected as the judge of County Court at Law No. 1 in 2006 and has served in that role from 2007 to the present.

During her time on the bench, she has been the local administrative county court at law judge in Brazos County, elected as the president of the Texas County Court at Law Judge’s Association, elected to serve on the board of directors for the Judicial Section of the Texas State Bar, and appointed to serve as the chair of the Ethics Committee for the Judicial Section. She has also been instrumental in creating and running the Brazos County Guardianship Program.
County Court at Law No. 1 handles criminal misdemeanor cases and civil cases, including:
- Child Custody
- Condemnation
- Personal Injury
- Probate matters including wills and guardianship
The Court also hears appeals from Justice of the Peace courts. We have jury trials scheduled every week as well as Magistrate Docket on Monday and Wednesday each week.

All criminal cases that are set for Jury Trial will also have a final pre-trial setting. All matters that the State or defendant request a pre-trial ruling on must be filed at least seven days prior to the final pre-trial hearing.
The Standing Order in Divorce and Family Cases applies in every divorce suit and in ever suit affecting the parent-child relationship filed in Brazos County. A copy of this order must be attached to the petition when it is filed. Copies will be available for your use in the District Clerk’s Office.
