Our Mission: To facilitate positive change in the offender through the provision of programs and services, rapid accountability for offender actions thus protecting the community and serving the Courts.
We provide support services to the courts by:
- Attending court proceedings and preparing paperwork for offenders placed under supervision
- Preparing pre-sentence reports, or social histories, on felony offenders who go through the court system
- Preparing legal documents for the modification and revocation of probationers.
- Testifying in court
- Assisting victims with questions and in collecting restitution
- Assisting the community by monitoring the collection of fines, court costs, appointed attorney’s fees, Crime Stoppers’ fees, and similar assessments
The Brazos County CSCD utilizes the Texas Risk Assessment System (TRAS) to appropriately classify and supervise offenders according to their risk level. By using the TRAS to identify criminogenic needs, case plans are then developed to assist the offender in becoming a more productive and law-abiding citizen, thus promoting success and reducing recidivism.
Our department makes efforts to reduce technical violations and use the resources available to interrupt criminal thinking. Referrals for services based on criminogenic needs are done via in-house counseling programs as well as referrals to outside contract providers. A strong in-house substance abuse counseling program, as well as a successful collaboration with the local Mental Health and Mental Retardation Authority are examples of resources utilized to assist offenders.
Finally, the use of specialized caseloads in Brazos County to supervise those offenders with higher criminogenic needs and risk factors is a necessary and responsible use of available resources. When criminogenic risk factors are appropriately targeted and treated, the likelihood of reoffending and subsequent risk to the community can be reduced.
