Notice of Public Hearing on Tax Increase
The Brazos County will hold two public hearings on a proposal to increase total tax revenues from properties on the tax roll in the preceding tax year by 3.15 percent (percentage by which proposed tax rate exceeds lower of rollback tax rate or effective tax calculated under Chapter 26, Tax Code). Your individual taxes may increase at a greater or lesser rate, or even decrease, depending on the change in the taxable value of your property in relation to the change in taxable value of all other property and the tax rate that is adopted.
The first public hearing will be held on August 20, 2013 at 3:15 PM at Brazos County Commissioners Courtroom, County Administration Bldg., 200 S. Texas Ave., Bryan, TX 778.
The second public hearing will be held on August 27, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Brazos County Commissioners Courtroom, County Administration Bldg., 200 S. Texas Ave., Bryan, TX 778.

The average taxable value of a residence homestead in Brazos County last year was $175,817. Based on last year's tax rate of $0.485000 per $100 of taxable value, the amount of taxes imposed last year on the average home was $852.71.
The average taxable value of a residence homestead in Brazos County this year is $181,643. If the governing body adopts the effective tax rate for this year of $0.472596 per $100 of taxable value, the amount of taxes imposed this year on the average home would be $858.44.
If the governing body adopts the proposed tax rate of $0.487500 per $100 of taxable value, the amount of taxes imposed this year on the average home would be $885.51.

Schedule D - Criminal Justice Mandate
The Brazos County Auditor certifies that Brazos County has spent $448,932 in the previous 12 months beginning October 1, 2011, for the maintenance and operations cost of keeping inmates sentenced to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Brazos County Sheriff has provided information on these costs, minus the state revenues received for reimbursement of such costs.
