Medical / Dental Services
Overview
Compassionate and comprehensive medical health care is provided to juveniles in the Juvenile Detention Center by a licensed Vocational Nurse who works on-site daily at the center, and who is also available and on-call 24 hours a day.

In addition to providing medical screening, assessment, and basic medical care, the Medical Services Coordinator also takes part in developing and implementing Health Programs for juveniles and also for staff.

Health Education Programs
Health Education Programs include, but are not limited to, providing instruction on such topics as teen pregnancy prevention, basic hygiene care, substance-abuse prevention, and communicable disease prevention.

In addition, we have a contracted physician who is on site weekly to perform medical exams and other physician-related medical care as needed.

Urgent Medical & Dental Care
Juveniles in need of urgent physician attention on days when the contracted physician is not on-site may be transported by detention staff off campus to the physician’s office to receive the needed care. Juveniles in need of emergency medical care are generally transported by detention staff to St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

Those juvenile residents in need of urgent dental care are transported to a local dentist who works with the Detention Center unless otherwise requested by parents or guardians. It is the goal of Brazos County Juvenile Probation Services medical staff to ensure appropriate health care is provided for every child in our care.
